Most teenagers and youth in Kenya are rocked with an identity crisis when it comes to Celebrity. The Celebrity culture negatively or positively impacts on their general Lifestyles. Some youth are attracted and motivated by the financial package that comes with the Celebrity status while others admire the recognition and fame.
In the popular youth culture in Kenya, a Celebrity is normally referred to as a Celeb, Celebo or to some Sonko.It is a common trend by youth to refer to each other as Sonko or Celeb usually when one appears on media occasionally or when one of their own acquires some instant or gradual level of financial stability and extend some generosity to his hood.
‘Sonko’ is a term that popularly originated from the urban youth to mean that one has bales of money. Many young people from slam areas in urban settings spontaneously discovered their musical talents and exploited them to rise to Celebrity status.
Naturally a Celebrity in Kenya would have a prominent profile with the media and can be easily identified or recognized. A Kenyan Celebrity would sometimes be identified with all the wrong things but among the Kenya youth this only uplifts their popularity.

Archbishop Dr Eliud Wabukala is the current de facto head of the Anglican Communion in Kenya. He is also the diocesan Bishop of All Saints Diocese in Nairobi. The Anglican Communion in Kenya boosts of several dioceses in its Provinces.
Dr Wabukala is also the chairman of GAFCON, an African Anglican Communion initiative of African Primates that was formed during the protest of the controversial acceptance of ordinations of gay clergy and Bishops into the Anglican Communion. This almost developed into a major split in the Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams is the purported world wide leader of the Anglican Communion, though in a ceremonial capacity. ‘We share together the apostolic faith within the body of Christ; witnessing the Good News of Salvation.’ How many of you share the Anglican Communion in Kenya?
Southern Sudan; The Newest Baby in Africa
Shouts of jubilation and joy were a typical replica through out the towns and villages of Southern Sudan. ‘’We have indeed gained our liberty, we have suffered so much and even though we must start from scratch it is worthy,’’ says Madik a former Sudanese student in Kenya.
‘’Southern Sudan hooey! Southern Sudan hooey!’’ amidst replies of jubilant chants of hooey!!! Hooey!’’ Was this the only characteristic climax of the celebration for the people of Southern Sudan? You got it all wrong if you did not stick your neck and glue your eyes on a television set. In fact, all that I saw was nothing less than a consistent climax of the African millennium.

It was more than you could imagine, marked with pomp and color all day and night, through out the previous and preceding weeks. ‘What amazed me most is the energetic gigs reminisced only in places like ‘carnivore or hot dancing spots here in Nairobi especially when that hot ‘celebrity’ is spotted and performing in town.
Though most of our African nations went through this momentous experience in the early 60s and afterwards, ‘we are not left behind in feeling the terrific and welcoming birth of this a new nation’. 9th of July marked the beginning of the nation of Southern Sudan.
Southern Sudan now becomes a republic and a recognized State Internationally. Most African and European States showed solidarity with Southern Sudan as it declared its independence. Southern Sudan has its capital city in Juba. The population is estimated to be about 8milion but with a high mortality rate. It is located in a vast swamp region of the Sudd formed by the White Nile River. It was part of the Republic of Sudan which got its independence in 1956.
Southern Sudan became an autonomous region in 1972 after an up rise of the 1st Civil war which lasted until 1983. The 2nd Civil war sprung out which led to a Comprehensive Peace agreement of 2005.

It is a pity that in more than a decade, the strength of the shilling has been vibrantly stable yet in less than a year it has been experiencing a sharp slide to the dollar, a fact Central Bank of Kenya has been unable to resolve amicably. Central Bank of Kenya is the financial regulating body.
Several strategies have been put in place without much success and the latest move by Central Bank of Kenya is raising eyebrows. The move to trade foreign currency directly to some targeted segments of the economy is up for critique from several quotas. The move by Central Bank of Kenya is likely to be a stimulant to other worse abuses.
Central Bank of Kenya in its desperate move to save the sliding shilling might have not weighed its options critically, living room for speculation, that some segments might take advantage be favored a fact that some investors fear.
